What is Strattera and what is it used for?

Strattera is a medication containing Atomoxetine that is used as part of a total therapy that includes psychological, social, and other treatments to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ADHD.

Atomoxetine in straterra Capsules is Thought to work by restoring the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain. This medication needs to be used with or without food, one or two times daily as directed by your doctor.

Your first dose of this medication is to be used early in the morning when you wake up, and if a second dose is prescribed, it should be used late in the afternoon or early evening but not close to your bedtime.

Using Strattera Capsules close to your bedtime may lead to trouble sleeping.

This capsule should be swallowed whole with water. Do not crush, chew or open the capsule.

The dosage of Strattera is based on your condition and response to treatment and any other medications you may be on.

What are the side effects of Strattera?

Using Strattera Capsules may cause any of the following side effects:

• Nausea

• stomach upset

• Vomiting

• Constipation

• Drowsiness

• Tiredness

• trouble sleeping

• Weight loss

• Appetite loss

• Decrease in sexual ability or desire

• Menstrual cramps

• Missed or irregular periods

• Other unlisted side effects

If any of these symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor or pharmacist. Not every user would experience any or all of these side effects. It is important to note that Atomoxetine may raise your blood pressure, and in rare cases cause serious and possibly fatal liver disease, heart attacks, or stroke.

Furthermore, male patients may have painful or prolonged erections that last four hours or more while using this medication. If you or your child experienced this, seek medical attention immediately.

What precautions should I take while using Strattera?

Before you use this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist of any medications or supplements you are on, or any allergies you may have.

Inform your doctor or pharmacist of your medical history especially if you have personal or family history of:

• Glaucoma

• Bladder or prostate problems

• Pheochromocytoma ( an adrenal problem)

• heart problems

• high blood pressure

• liver disease

• mental or mood changes or disorders

• Stroke.

Prolonged use may affect your child’s growth rate, weight, and final adult height. Do consult your doctor or pharmacist about extended use of this medication.

Furthermore, this medication should only be used when clearly needed during pregnancy or breastfeeding, although it is unknown if the drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before using this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
