What is Buscopan?
Buscopan is a medication containing hyoscine butyl bromide which is used in relieving painful periods, bladder cramps, stomach cramps, and stomach cramps linked with irritable bowel syndrome.
Hyoscine butyl bromide is different from hyoscine hydrobromide which is taken to prevent motion sickness.
Buscopan works very quickly and helps relieve stomach cramps by relaxing smooth muscles in the gut. This medication should not be used for more than two weeks.
Who can use buscopan?
Children and adults over 6 years can use buscopan. Buscopan irritable bowel syndrome relief tablets should only be used if you have irritable bowel syndrome.

Do not use Buscopan if you have:

• Myasthenia gralus

• Are pregnant.

• Difficulty or pain when urinating
• Overactive thyroid
• Digestion problems such as heart burns, severe constipation, ulcerative colitis, and acid reflux.
What is the dosage of buscopan?
Buscopan contains 10mg of hyoscine butyl bromide for relieving Symptoms of stomach cramps in adults and children over 12 years old. The usual dosage is two tablets four times daily and one tablet used three times daily for children 6 to 11 years old.
The usual dose for treating symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome as diagnosed by your doctor in adults and children over 12 years is 1 tablet used two times daily. Always follow your doctor’s dosage recommendations.
What are the side effects of Buscopan?
The following are possible side effects of Buscopan. Some of them are serious and should any of these symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor immediately. They include:
• dry mouth
• Constipation
• Blurred vision
• fast heart rate
Stop using this medication and seek medical aid if you notice:
• a painful red eye with vision loss
• Allergic reactions.
