N-Acetylcisteine (NAC) is an antioxidant medication used in treating Tylenol (Acetaminophen) poisoning. . NAC is formed from the amino acid L-cysteine and it works by binding the poisonous forms of Acetaminophen that may form in the liver. NAC as an antioxidant may play a role in preventing certain types of cancers. 

What is N-Acetylcisteine used for?

N-Acetylcisteine is used for any of the following illnesses or conditions:

• Partial or complete lung collapse

• Lung tests

• Care of people with tubes placed in their windpipe

• Acetaminophen poisoning
