What is Menotropin injection? 

Menotropin is a medication in Injection form used in treating certain fertility problems in women. Menotropin provides follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH) whose function is to stimulate healthy ovaries to make eggs. Menotropin injection is often used in combination with human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) which should help you become pregnant by stimulating ovulation. 

Menotropin is not recommended for use in women whose ovaries no longer make eggs properly, such as in primary ovarian failure. 

How is Menotropin injection administered?

You will be trained by a healthcare professional on the proper use and administration of this medication. 

Make sure you understand all of the preparation and usage instructions of this product before using it, and make sure to follow all information in the information leaflet. 

Menotropin is to be injected subcutaneously (under the skin) or intramuscularly as directed by your doctor. 

Menotropin dosage and length of use is to be determined by your doctor based on your condition, however, your dosage should not exceed 450IU per day, and treatment length should not exceed 12 days per cycle. 

Do not use this medication if you notice discoloration or particles in the solution. Discard any unused solution. Make sure to clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol and also change the injection site to avoid discomfort. 

Side effects of Menotropin injection. 

Many users of this medication have not reported serious side effects, regardless, common side effects of Menotropin injection use include:

• Redness or pain at the injection site

• Bloating or stomach pain

• Headache

• breast tenderness

• Dizziness

 Inform your doctor immediately you notice any of these serious side effects:

• fever

• Chills

• muscle ache or tiredness

• Weakness on one side of the body

• Sudden vision changes

• Slurred speech

• pain or swelling in calf muscles

• shortness of breath

• chest pain

• Vomiting

• Decreased urination

• sudden or rapid weight gain

Menotropin use may cause a condition known as Ovarian Hyper Stimulation Syndrome (OHSS) which may occur during or after therapy and in serious cases may cause fluid buildup in the stomach, chest, and heart area. 

What are the precautions for using Menotropin? 

Do not use if you are allergic to any medication containing FSH or LH, or other allergies as other ingredients may cause allergic reactions? Discuss this in detail with your doctor or pharmacist. 

Inform your doctor of any condition such as:

• Primary ovarian failure

• Fertility problems

• Abnormal uterine or vaginal bleeding

• Thyroid or adrenal gland problems

• cancer of the reproductive organs or other conditions

 Limit alcohol beverage or marijuana use while using this medication as these items in combination may worsen dizziness. 

Menotropin must not be used in pregnancy. If you think you’re pregnant or are pregnant, stop using Menotropin immediately.
