Description
TIMOLOL is prescribed for the treatment of high intraocular pressure. It has been demonstrated in clinical trials to lower intraocular pressure in people with ocular hypertension, ocular open-angle glaucoma, and aphakic patients with glaucoma, Some patients with secondary glaucoma.
Patients with narrow angles and a history of spontaneous or iatrogenically caused narrow-angle closure in the opposite eye, for whom intraocular pressure reduction is required.
In individuals with pediatric glaucoma who aren’t getting enough relief from other antiglaucoma drugs, TIMOLOL can be used as a supplement.

This medicine is used to treat glaucoma (open-angle type) and other eye conditions that cause high pressure inside the eye (e.g., ocular hypertension). Preventing blindness is made easier by lowering excessive intraocular pressure. The amount of fluid in the eye is reduced with this drug. Timolol belongs to the beta-blocker class of medications.

TIMOPTIC Ophthalmic Solution is available in 0.25 and 0.5 percent concentrations. One drop of 0.25 percent TIMOPTIC in the afflicted eye(s) twice a day is the usual starting dose. If the clinical response is insufficient, the dosage can be reduced to one drop of 0.5 percent solution twice daily in the afflicted eye(s).
Because the pressure-lowering response to TIMOPTIC may take a few weeks to stabilize in some individuals, an intraocular pressure assessment should be taken after about 4 weeks of treatment with TIMOPTIC.
If the intraocular pressure remains stable, the dosing schedule in the afflicted eye can be reduced to one drop once a day (s). Because intraocular pressure varies throughout the day, determining a good response to the once-daily dose is best done by monitoring intraocular pressure at several intervals throughout the day.
Doses more than one drop of 0.5 percent TIMOPTIC twice a day have not been found to reduce intraocular pressure further. If the patient’s intraocular pressure remains unsatisfactory on this regimen, concurrent therapy with other intraocular pressure-lowering agents can be used.

Apply one drop to the afflicted eye (or eyes). Some timolol eye drops should be taken twice a day, while others should only be used once. Tilt your head back a little and pull the lower lid of your eye out to form a pocket.
Hold the bottle or single-dose unit near your eye, upside down. As you do this, try not to contact your eye.
To discharge one drop into your eye, lightly press the button. Use a second drop only if the first one didn’t reach your eye.
Close your eyes and gently push on the side of your nose where the corner of your eye meets your nose for a minute or two. This maintains the drop in your eye and prevents it from draining out.
If you were directed to use the drops in both eyes, repeat the procedure in the other eye. One single-dose unit is sufficient to treat both eyes.
Remove the cap and replace it (or if you are using a single-dose unit, throw it away).
