What is PANTOMED used for?

Pantomed is mainly used for the treatment of conditions where the stomach produces too much acid. its uses include:

Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): In GERD, stomach acid frequently flows back into the esophagus, causing irritation and heartburn. Panpure 20mg helps alleviate this by reducing acid production.
Peptic Ulcers: Peptic ulcers are sores that develop on the inner lining of the stomach or the small intestine. By reducing stomach acid, Panpure 20mg aids in the healing of these ulcers.
Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: This rare condition involves excessive acid production due to tumors in the pancreas or the upper part of the small intestine. Panpure 20mg helps control acid secretion in these patients.

How does Pantomed work?

It contains Pantoprazole which works by inhibiting the enzyme H+/K+ ATPase, also known as the proton pump, which is responsible for the final step of acid production in the stomach. By blocking this enzyme, Pantoprazole significantly reduces the amount of acid produced, providing relief from symptoms such as heartburn and indigestion and allowing the stomach and esophagus to heal.

Pantomed Dosage

The typical dosage of Pantomed varies depending on the condition being treated:

For GERD and heartburn, a single 20mg tablet once daily is generally prescribed for a period of 4-8 weeks.

In the case of peptic ulcers, Pantomed may be prescribed alongside antibiotics for 2-4 weeks.

Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome may require higher doses, which can be adjusted according to the severity of the condition.

How to use Pantomed

The tablet should be swallowed whole with water, preferably before a meal, and should not be crushed or chewed.

How Quickly Does Pantomed Work?

While Pantomed does not provide immediate relief, it typically starts to reduce acid production within 2-3 hours of ingestion. For conditions like GERD, most patients will begin to notice significant relief from heartburn and indigestion within 2-3 days of regular use. However, it may take up to 4 weeks to experience the full benefits of Pantomed, especially in the case of ulcer healing.
