What is Combi-Clox used for?

Combi-Clox is used to treat infections caused by bacteria. These include skin infections like boils and abscesses, throat infections, pneumonia, bone infections, and urinary tract infections. It is especially useful when the infection is caused by bacteria that produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase, which can make them resistant to regular penicillin.

Ingredients and How It Works

It contains two active ingredients: ampicillin and cloxacillin. Both are antibiotics from the penicillin group. Ampicillin kills a wide variety of bacteria by stopping them from building their protective cell walls. Cloxacillin works similarly but is resistant to beta-lactamase, an enzyme that some bacteria use to block the effects of common antibiotics. When combined, these two ingredients provide a stronger and broader effect against infections.

Combi-Clox Dosage

The usual dose for adults is one capsule (500 mg) taken every 6 to 8 hours, depending on the severity of the infection. It should be taken on an empty stomach, one hour before or two hours after a meal. Always follow the exact dose and schedule given by your doctor.

How Fast Does It Work

Combi-Clox usually starts to work within 24 to 48 hours. Most people begin to feel better after a couple of days, but it’s important to complete the full course of treatment, even if the symptoms go away early. This helps prevent resistance and ensures the infection is fully treated.
