What Is Polygel Antacid Used For?

It is an anti-gas medication that provides relief for conditions caused by gastric hyperacidity or excess gas. It is often used for the relief of heartburn, constipation, stomach upset caused by gas, symptomatic relief of hyperacidity in patients with peptic ulcer, hiatal hernia, gastritis, and peptic oesophagitis. It can also serve as an anti-flatulent or be used as a laxative.

Composition

It contains Simethicone, Aluminum Hydroxide, Magnesium Hydroxide, or Magnesium Aluminium Silicate Hydrate as its active ingredients.

Contra-Indications

It is not suitable for use in patients who have renal failure, and those who are allergic to or have shown hypersensitivity to any of its components. 

Side Effects

Polygel is generally well-tolerated and as a result, has few side effects. However, possible yet rare side effects from the use of this drug include; Dizziness, Loss of appetite, Headache, Vomiting, Constipation, and Stomach cramps.

Interactions

It may interact and interfere with the activity of drugs and products that contain; Tetracycline, Fluoroquinolones, Isoniazid, Indomethacin, Iron, Digoxin, Mecamylamine, Phenothiazines and Ketoconazole.
