What is Biocin Cap used for?

Biocine cap has proven to be highly effective in treating various infections caused by Gram-positive aerobes like Streptococci, Pneumococci, and Staphylococci (including penicillinase-producing strains), as well as susceptible anaerobic bacteria. These include:

  • Bone and Joint Infections – Conditions such as osteomyelitis and septic arthritis.
  • Skin and Soft Tissue Infections – Including cellulitis, abscesses, furuncles, impetigo, acne, and wound infections.

  • Septicemia and Endocarditis – Blood infections and heart valve infections.
  • Bacillary Dysentery – A severe bacterial intestinal infection.

Usage in Neonates: Biocine is well tolerated in newborns, with no reported adverse effects.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

Biocine should not be used in individuals who have previously shown sensitivity to Lincomycin or Clindamycin.

DRUG INTERACTIONS

Biocine may interact with Erythromycin, potentially reducing its effectiveness.

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

  • Elderly Patients: Use with caution as they may be more prone to side effects, particularly diarrhea. Monitor bowel movements closely.
  • Newborns and Infants: Do not use in this age group, as it may lead to severe or even fatal complications.
  • Severe Skin Reactions: In rare cases, serious skin reactions may occur. Discontinue use and seek medical attention if symptoms arise.
  • Risk of Secondary Infections: Prolonged or repeated use may result in secondary bacterial or fungal infections.
  • Not Effective Against Viruses: Biocine treats bacterial infections only and does not work for viral illnesses like the common cold.
  • Complete the Full Treatment Course: Stopping early may lead to incomplete infection clearance and increase bacterial resistance.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

  • Pregnancy: Use only if absolutely necessary and under medical supervision.
  • Breastfeeding: Lincomycin Hydrochloride passes into breast milk, but its effects on nursing infants remain unclear. A healthcare provider should assess whether to discontinue breastfeeding or stop the medication.

SIDE EFFECTS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS

Common side effects include:

  • Skin & Mucous Membrane Issues: Itching, skin rashes, hives, vaginitis.
  • Gastrointestinal Problems: Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, persistent diarrhea.
  • Blood-Related Effects: Decreased white blood cells (leukopenia, neutropenia), severe blood disorders (agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenic purpura).
  • Seek medical attention immediately if experiencing:
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, breathing difficulty, facial swelling).
  • Bloody or watery stools.
  • Trouble swallowing, dizziness, mouth sores, or ringing in the ears.
  • Persistent diarrhea or stomach cramps.
  • Swelling of hands, eyes, or throat.
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (a sign of liver issues).

In case of overdose, provide supportive and symptomatic care as needed.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

  • Adults: 500mg three times daily
  • Severe cases: 500mg (or more) four times daily
  • Children: 30mg/kg/day in 3-4 doses
  • Important: Biocine should never be injected as an IV bolus.
