What is Imodium Liquid Used For?

Imodium liquid is an anti-diarrheal Oral liquid that contains the fastest single ingredient OTC medicine used for the control and treatment of symptoms of diarrhea caused by acute or active including traveler’s diarrhea in adults and children ages 6 years and above.

Imodium Liquid Ingredient

Active ingredient: Loperamide HCl

It contains 1mg of Loperamide HCl per 7.5 mL.

Other ingredients: Anhydrous citric acid, caramel color, D&C yellow no. 10, FD&C blue no. 1, flavor, glycerin, microcrystalline cellulose and carboxymethylcellulose sodium, propylene glycol, purified water, simethicone emulsion, sodium benzoate, sucralose, titanium dioxide and xanthan gum

How does Imodium Liquid work

Imodium works by slowing down the movement of the gut which decreases the number of bowel movements and makes the stool less watery. It contains Loperamide which is also used to reduce the amount of discharge in patients who have had an ileostomy.

Imodium Liquid Dosage and Usage

Imodium Liquid Dosage

Adults and children 12 years and over: Take 30ml after the first loose stool;15 ml after each subsequent loose stool but do not take more than 60ml in 24 hours
Children 9-11 years (60-95lbs): Take 15ml after the first loose stool; 7.5 ml after each subsequent loose stool but do not take more than 45 ml in 24 hours
Children 6-8 years (48-59 lbs): Take 15 mL after first loose stool. 7.5 mL after each subsequent loose stool. but do not more than 30 ml in 24 hours
Children 2-5 years (34 to 47 lbs): At the doctor’s prescription
Children under 2 years (up to 33 lbs): Do not give to children under the age of 2 years

How to use Imodium Liquid

drink plenty of clear fluids to help prevent dehydration due to diarrhea
Follow the right age and weight-appropriate dose on the product leaflet.
shake Imodium liquid well before using.
Use only the enclosed dosing cup that comes with Imodium liquid.

How long does it take Imodium Liquid to work?

It starts to work within 30 minutes of taking it and it is effective for about 8 to 12 hours.

Imodium Liquid Side effects

Allergic reactions such as; skin rash, itching, hives, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Heart rhythm changes include; fast or irregular heartbeat, dizziness, feeling faint or lightheaded, chest pain, and trouble breathing.
Redness, blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin, including inside the mouth.
Severe stomach pain.
