What is Atacand used for?

Atacand is a prescription medicine that is used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) In adults and Children above one year. Atacand Composition

Atacand contains Candesartan cilexetil as the active ingredient and the following inactive ingredients: hydroxypropyl cellulose, polyethylene glycol, lactose, corn starch, carboxymethylcellulose calcium, and magnesium stearate.

How does Atacand work?

Atacand contains Candesartan as the active ingredient. Candesartan belongs to a class of drugs known as angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) which works by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily all around the body.

How to use Atacand

Common side effects of Atacand include; runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, cough, back pain, joint pain, stomach pain, diarrhoea and headache.

Can Atacand be used at night?

New research suggests that taking your blood pressure medication at bedtime may be more effective to reduce your risk of illness or death due to heart and blood vessel disease. The timing of the use of this medication is important because blood pressure follows a daily rhythm. Blood pressure rises higher during the day and falls at night when we sleep.

For how long does it take for Atacand to work?

It takes about 2 weeks for Atacand to begin lowering blood pressure, and about 4 weeks for it to reach its full effect.

Who should not take Atacand?

Atacand should not be used to treat high blood pressure in children younger than 1 year.

 As a treatment for heart failure, Atacand hasn’t been studied in children. It should not be used in people younger than 18 years to treat heart failure.
