What is Adenosine Inj 6 mg HQ?

It is usually administered as a higher dose when Adenosine 3 mg has been given but with little or no improvement.

Adenosine is nonpyrogenic which means it does not produce heat or fever when inserted into the body.

What does Adenosine do to the body?

It helps in the rapid conversion to sinus rhythm of paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT), including that associated with accessory bypass tracts (Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome).

How should it be administered?

The Adenosine 6 mg HQ is given rapid bolus intravenous by the peripheral intravenous route to a patient that requires the medication.

Adenosine 6 mg HQ is given to a patient whose heart is not producing the right rhythm and has gotten the 3 mg/ml dose but is showing no sign improvement particularly within the 1 or 2 minutes mark after administration.

It is expected that after administering the 6 mg HQ dose, the patient should experience a normalization of heart rhythm within 1 or 2 minutes.
